One of the procedures performed in wrinkle treatments is botox application. Botox is a proteinaceous toxin obtained from a bacterium called botulunum toxin clostrudium botulinum.

Botox applications are procedures to reduce or prevent the contraction of the muscles that cause wrinkles on the face with fine injectors.

Generally, applications between the ages of 20-30 are done for preventive purposes in order to prevent the development of wrinkles.

Applications after the age of 30 are both preventive and therapeutic.

Apart from cosmetic applications, botox is also applied to the armpits, hands and soles of the individuals with excessive sweating problems.

In Which Areas Is Botox Applied?

Botox application is a procedure that takes 10-15 minutes on average. It is possible to make the procedure painless by applying anesthetic creams in individuals with pain sensitivity before the application. The effect of the procedure begins to be seen within the first 48-72 hours. The maximum effect becomes evident within a week. Although the effect of Botox lasts about 4-6 months, this period may vary between 3-12 months depending on factors such as the application area, the quality of the material used, the age of the patient and the use of the muscles. Botox can be reapplied after a period of 4-6 months. Repeated botox treatment can prolong the aging period of the skin in terms of wrinkles. It can also delay the formation of permanent static lines for many years with repeated applications.

What to Do After Botox Procedure?

After Botox procedure, we call our patients for a check-up 3 weeks later and go through a general examination. If this application is performed by an experienced dermatologist who has knowledge of facial anatomy, the probability of complications is very low. After the procedure, our patients can return to their daily lives. No swelling or redness occurs on the face. Although rare, side effects may occur. After Botox, we advise our patients not to drink alcohol, not to exercise excessively, and not to go to places such as Turkish bath and sauna for two weeks. In addition, the application area should not be massaged.
